When your clumping cat litter boasts a lightweight formula, it’s easier to carry, scoop and dump. And you’ll use much less litter with each clean.
Fast clumping absorbency
Of course, most clumping cat litters marketed as such will do what you need it to do. But some litters will work better than others.
The goal is to find litter that forms into larger clumps that make it easier to pick up. Additionally, litter made out of bentonite clay is well known to absorb liquid. So it will absorb and bind urine in hard, big clumps. It works really fast, prevents wasted litter and is mess-free.
Most cat litters produce some dust but the more dust-free the better. If dust emits into the air every time you scoop cat litter or pour it into the box, you could be putting you and your cat at risk for allergies or respiratory problems.
Clumping litter will have scented and unscented options. It’s important to buy clumping cat litter that provides protection from any lingering smell. But you want to avoid scented cat litters, especially if you or your kitty has a sensitive sense of smell.
Some brands do provide odour shield technology or odour control guarantee and that’s what you want to look for.
While bentonite clay is a very fast acting clumping ingredient, it’s not as biodegradable or safe for flushing as other ingredients. This is an important consideration depending on what’s more important to you. If you want to simply flush cat litter down the toilet, then friendlier litter bases would be pine or grass seed litter.
