Wellness Cat Food Review

About Wellness
Wellness has been a recognizable pet food brand for over two decades. They were originally founded in 1997, though this was a creation of WellPet LLC, a company that started in 1926. Today, this is a subsidiary of Berwind Corporation, a private investment management company based out of Philadelphia.
They have a diverse range of all-natural food that can meet any cat breed needs, full of high-protein and essential vitamins that help to boost overall health and wellbeing.
Wellness prides themselves on their passion for pets through crafting delicious recipes that use simple and natural ingredients. They work with animal nutrition experts, veterinarians and scientists to develop food that supports pet health. And in keeping with safety standards, they have developed an extensive quality assurance program to guarantee that all their products are safe. Most of their food production takes place at their own facility in Mishawaka, Indiana, while some of their wet food pouches are manufactured in Thailand.
More than just providing nutritional pet food, Wellness is also committed to supporting the community and sustainability initiatives that help the environment. As a result, they started the Wellness Foundation, with a mission to raise money for non-profit organizations that help pets in need.
Now that you know more about Wellness, it’s time to dive deeper into their food products. To help you better decide on whether Wellness’ cat food is the right fit for your feline, we’ve reviewed their highest rated dry and wet cat food below.

Brand Recalls
Wellness has a precarious history of recalls since their launch in 1997. But that’s somewhat expected for a company that has been in the industry for a while. Recalls are a good thing to be aware of, but they can happen for a variety of reasons.
Here’s a brief snapshot of Wellness’ recall history:
2017
In February of this year, WellPet recalled several canned cat food varieties after small pieces of metal were found in products made in the same facility. Even though this affected non-WellPet products, they decided to still recall their own products out of good measure. The second recall happened shortly after in March, when WellPet recalled one variety of canned dog food due to possible elevated levels of naturally occurring beed thyroid hormone.
2012
There were two recalls in 2012. The first was a recall of one dry dog food recipe due to possible salmonella contamination. Later in the year, a single variety of dry food was recalled due to excessive moisture content. Even though this one doesn’t seem overly dangerous, it could lead to mold developing before the expiration date.
2011
Several varieties of Wellness canned cat food were recalled due to insufficient levels of thiamine.
It’s important to note that Wellness is rated positively among consumers for being a premium pet food brand. And WellPet generally has a clean record of safety throughout their long history.
